I’d like to elaborate the idea on being approachable. Too often, we forget that our clients are real people. I myself was guilty of this crime. It can be difficult, especially if you’re on a roadshow and need to repeat the same presentation over and over. My nightmare record was ten times in a single day!
A little trick I discovered to ease the business only impression is to imagine ahead of the meeting that I am going to meet my old friends, even if I have never met them before. This helps me bring out a warmer smile and a friendlier attitude. This is a particularly effective way to establish rapport with your audience when you combine it with a conversational presentation and appropriate eye contact.
There is a pool of talented analysts with strong financial backgrounds. As insensitive as this may sound, there can be little difference between you and your counterpart at a competitor firm. The personal touch makes you real in the eyes of your audience. Your audience will show their appreciation by remembering you.
