“Financial analyst” is a broad term that encompasses financial professionals across many industries. In the banking and finance industry alone, there is a large assortment of job titles such as: investment banker, equity research analyst, credit analyst, derivatives analyst and portfolio manager (just to name a few).
Although their viewpoints may vary, many financial analysts share similar experiences throughout their career.
This blog is dedicated to financial professionals in the banking and finance industry from all over the world. It is my sincere intention to share with you here on many levels, including valuable insights and experiences that I have had in my career.
One day I estimated that I had spent about half of my waking hours as a sell-side equity research analyst (until I took early retirement in 2002).
I have experienced firsthand the biggest booms and some of the most sensational busts in the industry! The swift downfall of a 233-year old merchant bank, the tragic collapse of a rising financial institution during the 1997 economic crisis and the inevitable withdrawal of a regional powerhouse from its overseas operations (triggered by prolonged forex control), to name a few.
In 2003 I switched gears and became a private investor and trader. Being on “the other side” allowed me to gain a deeper perspective into the relationship between analyst and client. I have observed that many challenges and experiences of financial analysts are “universal” over time and across many countries. The companies’ names and people’s faces may change but the stories stay the same.
You already know that it takes more than just the number basics to become an exceptional financial analyst. Communication skills, people skills and a success mindset are crucial and yet rarely included in the training programs. I will be gathering more resources for you to add to your “toolbox.” As this blog grows, I will also bring in some experts to share their wisdom with you.
I hope this resource blog will help you open up possibilities that you have not previously noticed so you won’t ever have to feel stuck. I also hope it will help you accelerate your journey to the next level of your career while still achieving an integrated success in your life.
Warm regards,

Corinne Lor
